Meet The Team

Gail Schorsch, Founder/Director

Gail is the founder and director of Bronx Eats, a nonprofit which brings hands-on, plant-based cooking education to Bronxites. She is a food activist and educator who has lived in the Bronx since 2003. Gail earned a B.A. from Barnard College, an M.A. in Education from the University of CA at Berkeley, and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Lehman College (2018). Gail served as site coordinator for Corbin Hill Food Project’s farm share at Lehman College and worked at the New Roots Community Farm on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. She is passionate about improving access to fresh fruits and vegetables in high-need Bronx neighborhoods and supporting local food businesses and chefs.

Gail sees food as a great convener of people and community building, not only as a source of vital nutrition. Bronx Eats embraces many of Gail’s preoccupations: social justice, mental health, food insecurity, culture-sharing, environmentalism, community, and personal health. Bronx Eats aims to change not only the way we eat, but the way we live and interact with each other and the planet. Gail’s love for fresh vegetables and home-cooked food is the launching pad to build a more equitable, nourishing, and supportive borough with fellow Bronxites and beyond. She is also an avid composter, even when the city does not pick up on her block!

“The opportunity to work together with other people who you do not know to create something larger than yourself is a rarity in today’s society. We don’t get to do that often enough.”
